Bird photography is often practiced in the company of others. It might be other photographers, and it might also include birders who are not photographers.

Bird photography is one genre where etiquette is necessary to help everyone get the best view and pictures of these magnificent creatures.

Here are some important etiquette tips:

  • Stop just before entering a public bird blind. Go slow and quietly.

  • Silence your mobile phone.

  • Converse in a whisper or with hand signals.

  • Always remove any trash that you create.

  • Do not use digital bird calls near a nest, as it may cause the parent birds to abandon the eggs or newborn chicks.

  • Keep a distance from all nests for the birds’ protection as well as yours.

  • Don’t photobomb someone else’s shot; be aware of your surroundings.
